How it all Began
The major spark that began WW1 was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary. Serbia committed the assassination and Austria-Hungary instantly wanted to get back at Serbia but they needed to secure a few things first (See Alliances And Treaties Tab). People wonder why Austria wouldn't just assassinate a Serbian leader instead of a whole war. The answer to that is Austria-Hungary had been wanting to start a preventative war against Serbia in order to get back the land of th Balkans which had been lost during the Balkan Wars. What started off as just an assassination started an all out war all over the globes and pushing countries to their limits. This did effect us over here in the United States because little did we know: we were soon to be involved in the biggest war yet.
